Sadi Carnot

Sadi Carnot (1796-1832) worked on the mathematical theory of heat and helped start the modern theory of thermodynamics.

He was the first to state clearly that all energy is interchangeable. Further analysis led him to propose the “Carnot Engine” which is the ideal against which all others are measured.
